Ealing Dolphins

Ealing Dolphins is the largest of the four sections of Ealing Swimming Club. We are a competitive swimming club and we offer a ‘Learn To Swim Programme’ for children aged five and upwards through to a ‘Development Swimming Programme’ for swimmers aged seven to seventeen based at Gurnell Leisure Centre which boasts one of the few 50m pools in the country.
As part of Ealing Swimming Club we are committed to excellence in our coaching of swimmers. Our aim is to enable every swimmer to realize their potential whether it is simply to achieve good technique on all four competitive strokes or to achieve success at National or International levels.
To this end all our staff are Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) qualified teachers / coaches. Many of these are ex club swimmers who along with volunteer staff attempt to give back to swimming much of the benefits they have received.
Progression from one group to the next is based on ability. That ability is continuously assessed and formally assessed at the end of each term. From Bronze; Silver; Gold or Platinum groups there is a clear pathway into the ‘SQUAD’ PROGRAMME. Access to this programme is based on ability, desire and potential.

Ealing Dolphin Staff: Who are they?

All staff of Ealing Swimming Club have been CRB checked and subscribe to the ASA Coach Licencing Scheme;

The teaching / coaching programme is managed and supervised by Mike Gallagher (ASA Level 3 Coach / ASA Tutor) under the overall management of Dave Heathcock (ASA Level 4 Coach) who is the Head Coach of Ealing Swimming Club

Ealing Marlins

With around 180 members, Ealing Marlins have been at their Acton home - Acton Baths - since 1981 (a venue which they share with friendly rivals Acton SC. The teaching/training programme (see below) starts at Beginner level and progresses through skill development to swimming for health and recreation. Ealing Marlins have consistently produced swimmers who excel in the sport.
As members of Ealing Swimming Club, swimmers in Ealing Marlins have the opportunity of joining the Squad or Water Polo.

Ealing Crabs

Ealing Water Polo Club (The Crabs) have rich history competing in National, London and Middlesex League competitions for over twenty years. The team comprises a mix of young professionals, students and overseas travellers from countries including Australia, Spain, Lithuania, Iran, Holland, Greece and South Africa. Ages currently range from sixteen to thirty something.

The Crabs are affiliated to Ealing Swimming Club and train every Monday and Thursday at 9.00pm at Gurnell Swimming Pool in Perivale, West London . The club operates a successful men’s team and is in the process of developing a female and junior polo team.

A warm welcome to competitive swimmers, sprinters / polo players, elite masters and triathletes and open water swimmers.

Advice on technique, planned swim sessions and information on current competitions, help with ASA applications will be available from the coach - Walker Brierley.

Dormers Academy

Established in 2002, Dormers Academy is the smallest and newest of Ealing Swimming Club’s sections but has already produced a National Finalist.

Time-table and programme
The Academy trains on Sunday night at Dormers Wells Leisure Centre from 4pm to 5.30pm. Beginners’ classes run from 4 to 4.30, 4.30 – 5.00 and 5.00 to 5.30. Skill Development training is from 4.00 to 5.30.

Swimmers progress from the Academy into the Ealing Squad or into one of the other Ealing houses - Ealing Dolphins, Ealing Marlins or Northolt Phoenix.

Northolt Phoenix

From 1st November 2007, the section will be swimming at John Lyon’s Pool with Learn to Swim lessons also taking place at Horsenden School.

The programme includes learn to swim lessons, skill development, lifeguard training and swimming for health and recreation. Northolt Phoenix compete in the North London league and, individually, in development meets.
