Nationals Championships
The conclusion of another long season of swimming draws near with the first of this summer's National Championships starting in Sheffield.
The younger swimmers (11 – 14 years) will swim in the National BAGCATS in Ponds Forge this week, with 7 swimmers from the Gurnell based squad in action. The youngest is Lucy Thornton (11) who makes her debut at these Nationals and will swim the 100m and 200m butterfly. Aaron Pullen (12) goes in the 200m breaststroke and 1500m free, whilst Adam Plavsic (13) will swim the 100 and 200m breaststroke. The other individual qualifier who has made the very tough qualifying standard is Alex Bandarian (14) who will swim the 100m and 200m butterfly. Three boy's relay teams from the Club have also qualified with the 4 x100m freestyle team of Alex and Adam joined by Eamon Haroun and Ade Coker, the 4 x 200 free team with Rohan Singh in place of Adam, whilst the 4 x 100 medley team will see Ade, Adam, Alex and Rohan combine. With some strong and focused performances the Ealing swimmers should be in line to challenge for those elusive final places.
The following week will see the Youth swimmers (14 – 18 years) make their challenge for National honours in the same Sheffield venue. Naomi Sawaki
