Crawley Swimming Club’s meet at the weekend saw a very high level entry with teams from across the South and West of England and the Midlands competing at the K2 50m pool. Ealing swimmers again produced some excellent results across all ages with many best times swum and achieving, or getting closer to, the elusive national qualifying standards.
James Crawford, swimming in the open age group, produced three first and two second places from his five events, all inside the senior National qualifing standard. James won the 100m back (60.91), 50m freestyle (24.75) and 100m butterfly (58.19) and claimed second spot in the 200m butterfly (2.10.26) and 100m freestyle (54.15) – the 19 year old student starts a four year swimming scholarship in American this August .Gina Heyn (23) was a double winner in the open age group taking the 50m breaststroke (35.25) and 50m freestyle (27.66) . Lauren Turner in the 15 year age group won three events with best times in each, making gold in the 100m butterfly (67.87), 200m freestyle (2.09.40), and 100m freestyle (60.08) . Natalie Durant (17) took first place in both the open age group backstroke events swimming the 200m in a best time of 2.18.39 and the 100m in 66. 31. Ade Coker, in the 11 year age group, also swum some much improved times making second place in the 100m backstroke (1.16.76), the 100m breaststroke (1.27.12) and the 200m breaststroke ( 3.07.44) .
Ramsey Haroun ( 15 ) swam the 2 longest events on the programme - the 1500m and 800m freestyle and made a best time in both with a national qualifying standard in both. His 16.45.45 was good for third spot in the open 1500m freestyle , whilst 8.51.75 in the 800m freestyle gave him 5th place. Tariq Miller (16) took bronze in the 100m breaststroke in a new best time and national qualifying time of 1.10.18. Tariq also swam a superb 200m freestyle to break the 2 minute barrier for the first time with 1.59.57 - another national qualifying time.
Other noticeable swims came from: Daniel Crawford (16) 200m butterfly (2.23.62); Alex Bandarian (12) 100m backstroke (1.12.12); Melako Coker (14) 100m backstroke (1.06.95) and 100 freestyle (60.96), , Luke Shewring (17) 1500m freestyle (17.33.23), Polly Kemp-King (16) 100m freestyle (1.02.03) and Aaron Pullen (10) swam a best time in the 100m freestyle (1.13.71).
Ealing swimmers have a busy schedule ahead over the next few weeks with the London Region Youth & Senior Championships being swum at their home pool, Gurnell over the first May bank holiday and further open meets at Hatfield and Wycome to follow in May. Swimmers from Ealing Dolphins and Ealing Marlins have also been competing with great success in the Middlesex Development Meet which continues next weekend.
