Ealing Swimming Club’s Joao Matias (21) represented Angola in the exciting Fina World Short Course Championships held in Manchester last week.

He had a very successful meet  setting a new Angolan Record in the 50m Butterfly with his time of 25.41 seconds and also achieving personal best performances  in the 50m and 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 100m medley, where his times were 23.94, 52.90, 56.74, and 59.56 seconds respectively.

Joao will go to the Beijing Olympics as part of the Angolan team in August and continues meanwhile to train in Dave Heathcock’s Gurnell based squad alongside some of the country’s leading sprint swimmers.
