Ealing Swimming Club
Seven swimmers from Ealing Swimming Club will compete in the British Swimming Championships which will be held next week in Sheffield. This is the major national swimming event of the year and will be the trial competition for several events - primarily the Olympics, but also the European Junior Championships, the Youth World Championships, the Youth Commonwealth Games and the Canadian Tri-Nations Competition. Qualifying times have been extremely hard and all the elite of British swimming will be present.
Georgina Heyn and Charles Turner (both 23) will compete in sprint events – Georgina has qualified for the 50m freestyle and the 100m freestyle and breaststroke and Charles for the 50m and 100m freestyle. They will be facing very strong competition in their bid to join the British Olympic team but both are at the peak of fitness and swimming well.
Holly Mills (19) will be joining the Ealing team from Florida State University where she has a full swimming scholarship. She has had a very successful year in Talahasee and the Club are looking forward to her re-joining them for these championships where she will compete in the 100m and 200m backstroke.
Natalie Durant (17), will be swimming in the 100m, 200m and 400m freestyle and will be joined in the 100m and 200m events by Jenna Turner (17). Jenna has recently returned from the European Long Course championships where she swam the final leg of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay in a fine personal best time. Lauren Turner (14) and Zak Shafique (15), will both be competing in backstroke events – Lauren in the 100m and 200m races and Zak in the 200m.
The swimmers come fresh from a very successful Middlesex Championships and Ealing’s Head Coach Dave Heathcock is hoping for some fine performances in these trials. They take with them the Club’s best wishes for success.
